WRIGHT - Gov. Dave Freudenthal and U.S. Sen. Craig Thomas toured this tornado-damaged town Wednesday morning, while the governor's office submitted a request for a presidential disaster declaration.
An estimated 454 people remained without homes because of tornado damage, according to town officials. The governor's letter to President Bush said 35 percent of the total available housing in Wright was destroyed or damaged by the twister.
"There is a severe shortage of housing in this small town and in the neighboring communities," the governor wrote. "Once school starts, disaster victims who have to move will not want to interrupt their children during the school year. The fear is that the people will not return."
