JACKSON — Jackson officially has a new affordable housing project in the works.
The Town Council voted Monday to seek developers to build affordable housing at 174 N. King St.
The question, as always, is can developers find a way to make it work financially?
Located in the downtown core, the 17,000-square-foot lot is ideal for affordable housing: It’s close to downtown and public transportation, and zoned densely enough to provide over 35,000 square feet of floor area in a three-story building.
Unsure of how many proposals will come forward due to the financial constraints of building deed-restricted housing in Jackson, the council decided to leave the request as open as possible to encourage creative thinking.
