Casper fire smoke

A cold front pushing south is moving smoke from wildfires in Montana down the Interstate 25 corridor, as shown in this satellite image from the National Weather Service office in Riverton on Aug. 3.

Casperites woke up to the smell of a campground and a smoky haze Friday morning.

The source, according to the National Weather Service's Riverton office, is a cold front heading south from Montana, which is pulling smoke from a couple of wildfires in the southeastern part of the state.

It is expected to last until at least Saturday night.

The Weather Service says visibility is reduced to 2 miles at some instances, and officials urged caution when driving Interstate 25 and area highways.
