Herman Kreger

SHERIDAN - Services for Herman Kreger, 90, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 30, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sheridan by Pastor William Heine.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Kane Funeral Home of Sheridan and burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

He died Dec. 27, 2004, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sheridan.

Born Nov. 23, 1914, in Laurel, Mont., he was the son of John and Amelia "Molly" (Barret) Kreger. The family moved to the Sheridan area in 1920.

He served in the U.S. Army as a first sergeant from Nov. 27, 1943, to Jan. 30, 1946.

On Jan. 14, 1938, he married Mabel Schnorf. She preceded him in death after 50 years of marriage.

A rancher from 1937 to 1940, he worked at Gamble's Store; Northern Lumber Co. from 1947 to 1966; and Sheridan Flouring Mill until it closed. He then owned the Maytag Coin-Operated Laundry for 14 years and retired in 1978.

He married Ruth (Howarth) Badget on July 8, 1988.

He served as commander of the American Legion in 1957 and 1958; and enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains and Lake DeSmet. An avid gardener, he was once honored for "yard of the week." He collected caps and had more than 85, paying for very few.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Karen Lee Roth and Donna Kay Kepp; two sisters, Millie Loeber and Esther Badget and her husband; stepson, Wayne T. Wagner; four granddaughters; three grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Herman Edward Kreger, in 1963; a grandson; two brothers, John and Victor Kreger; and a sister, Emma Lee Nelson.
