WHEATLAND - Platte County Attorney Mary Eikenberry is seeking to rescind her resignation, telling county commissioners in a letter Monday that she is withdrawing last week's letter of resignation and plans to do the work that she was elected to do.

According to commission Chairman Joe Reichardt, he and the other two commissioners received the latest letter from Eikenberry Monday morning. They plan to meet on Thursday to discuss both letters. In the meantime, they plan to visit with their attorney, David Evans, who the commissioners voted to hire last week to represent them in the issues with Eikenberry, to decide what they will do next.

Plans are already in motion to replace Eikenberry after she resigned Wednesday evening, as an official letter was sent Thursday to the Republican Party to nominate three new possible county attorney candidates. The party has 15 days from Eikenberry's resignation date to respond, and then commissioners have five days to decide on their choice for the new county attorney.

According to Detective Lisa Smith of the Wheatland Police Department, after Eikenberry did not go to the office on Friday or attend court proceedings, her staff became concerned and asked the Platte County Sheriff's Office to check on her at her home. Smith said officers found that Eikenberry was OK.
