A Type One incident command team is being rushed to Casper to fight a wildfire that is threatening homes on Casper Mountain.

State Forester Bill Crapser said such national interagency teams are called together to fight the most dangerous and complex fires. It consists of state, local and federal agencies.

By this morning, Crapser said the fire had consumed about 4,400 acres and was moving to the east.

Of particular concerned were 30-mile-per-hour winds forecast for later today coming out of the west.

"Which is the absolute worst place they could be coming from right now," Crapser said.

By the end of the day, Crapser said 200 people could be fighting the fire. Two National Guard Blackhawk helicopters, a state forestry helicopter, two federal helicopters and two heavy air tankers also are involved in fire suppression activities.

The incident command post for the fire was being relocated from Beartrap Meadow to Casper - either to the Fairgrounds or the National Guard Armory, Crapser said.

An evacuation hotline for the fire also has been set up. The number is 235-9554.
