CHEYENNE -- The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is notifying developers of its expectations for wildlife protections during the construction and operation of wind farms.

The department this week released its draft recommendations for collecting data and evaluating wind development's effect on wildlife. The report also includes tips for mitigating wildlife effects.

Biologist Scott Gamo says the department started compiling the document a year ago because of the increased wind energy interest in the state.

The department advises the state Industrial Siting Council on permits for major construction projects in the state, including wind farms.

The department is taking public comment on the draft document until Dec. 18. The Game and Fish Commission will then vote on the recommendations.
