BOYS

Buffalo

n SEED, RECORD: North No. 2, 7-7-5.

n STATE BEST: State champion, 1997.

n KEY FIGURES: James Kinzer, sr., F (10 goals, 4 assists); Zach Peters, sr., M (5 goals, 1 assist); Matt Fagerland, jr., K (7 shutouts).

n TITLE CHANCES: Decent. The Bison are back at state for the first time since '98. This year's success is built around defense.

Cheyenne East

n SEED, RECORD: South No. 1, 15-1-3.

n STATE BEST: Defending champion. Leads state with eight titles overall.

n KEY FIGURES: Sean Moran, sr., M (11 goals, 5 assists); Patrick Moran, sr., M (7 goals, 10 assists); Brandon Johnson, sr., D; Mat Gardner, jr., K (15 shutouts).

n TITLE CHANCES: Very good. The Thunderbirds have talent in each third of the field, highlighted by the Moran twins and a salty defense.

Gillette

n SEED, RECORD: North No. 3, 10-5-4.

n STATE BEST: State champion, 1994.

n KEY FIGURES: Ryan Mahylis, sr., F (11 goals, 4 assists); Jacob Swan, so., M (8 goals, 4 assists); AJ Stevermer, so., K (8 shutouts).

n TITLE CHANCES: Decent. The Camels are young with just four seniors. Three losses were by one goal, the other in overtime.

Jackson

n SEED, RECORD: South No. 2, 7-5-4.

n STATE BEST: First state tournament bid.

n KEY FIGURES: Brian Izard, sr., M (9 goals, 4 assists); Richard Bonilla, so., M (6 goals); Sam Hayden, so., K (4 shutouts).

n TITLE CHANCES: Decent. State first-timers haven't fared well in the past (2-10) but the Broncs' defense hasn't allowed more than two goals this season.

Kelly Walsh

n SEED, RECORD: South No. 4, 12-3-4.

n STATE BEST: Three titles, last in 2003.

n KEY FIGURES: Josh Crotteau, sr., M (11 goals, 3 assists); Lance Fondren, jr., M (6 goals, 2 assists); Kramer Hirz, jr., M (6 goals); Sean Bell, so., F (3 goals, 4 assists).

n TITLE CHANCES: Good. Don't led the No. 4 seed fool you. The Trojans' midfield is as good as East's and the front and back lines are solid.

Natrona County

n SEED, RECORD: North No. 4, 6-10-2.

n STATE BEST: One title, 1996.

n KEY FIGURES: Corey Hittle, so., D (5 goals, 1 assist); Seth Burstad, jr., M (3 goals, 2 assists); Tyler Price, sr., M (2 goals, 3 assists).

n TITLE CHANCES: Decent. Mid-season suspensions hurt the Mustangs but most of the players are back. NC's style of play is also problematic for most opponents.

Rock Springs

n SEED, RECORD: South No. 3, 10-5-2.

n STATE BEST: One runner-up, 2001.

n KEY FIGURES: Cody Fredricksen, sr., M (8 goals, 5 assists); JJ Facinelli, sr., M (6 goals, 8 assists); Chris Gold, sr., F (8 goals, 4 assists); CJ Dana (5 shutouts).

n TITLE CHANCES: Good. The Tigers have won five straight. One win took away Central's regular spot at state and the other was vs. previous No. 1 KW.

Worland

n SEED, RECORD: North No. 1, 14-3-2.

n STATE BEST: 0-2 at 2004 state.

n KEY FIGURES: Con Deniz, jr., M (17 goals, 9 assists); Scott Soderstrom, fr., M (4 goals, 9 assists); Rusty Christensen, sr., M; Bryan Overcast, jr., K (11 shutouts).

n TITLE CHANCES: Good. The Warriors are still state newbies but their disciplined style and high-scoring touch have negated depth concerns.

GIRLS

Cheyenne Central

n SEED, RECORD: South No. 4, 9-7-2.

n STATE BEST: One title, 1992.

n KEY FIGURES: Whitney Shiba, sr., F (10 goals, 4 assists); Kristin Nimmo, F (3 goal, 3 assists); Layne Strannigan, sr., M.

n TITLE CHANCES: Decent. The Indians have been up and down, but they have the athleticism to match anyone.

Cheyenne East

n SEED, RECORD: South No. 1, 10-5-2.

n STATE BEST: Eight titles, last in 2002.

n KEY FIGURES: Megan Erickson, so., F (13 goals, 8 assists); Vanessa Gallegos, so., M (4 goals, 5 assists); Megan Johnson, sr., K (7 shutouts).

n TITLE CHANCES: Very good. East has allowed just two goals in its last five games, and the youngsters are playing like veterans.

Cody

n SEED, RECORD: North No. 4, 12-5-2.

n STATE BEST: Two appearances, 0-2 last year.

n KEY FIGURES: Crystal Umphlett, so., F (24 goals, 8 assists); Raechyl Martin, sr., F (10 goals, 11 assists); Marian Reed, jr., M (6 goals, 4 assists).

n TITLE CHANCES: Decent. Only NC has scored more goals this year, so scoring isn't the concern for the Park County Fillies.

Gillette

n SEED, RECORD: North No. 3, 10-7-1.

n STATE BEST: Two runnerups, last in 2002.

n KEY FIGURES: Dawn Storie, sr., F (8 goals, 8 assists); Trisha Henshaw, jr., F (9 goals); Ashley Schultz, sr., K (9 shutouts).

n TITLE CHANCES: Decent. The Camels went just 3-6-1 against the state field but two of those wins were vs. their opponent on Thursday.

Kelly Walsh

n SEED, RECORD: South No. 2, 9-7-2.

n STATE BEST: One title, 1994.

n KEY FIGURES: Taylor Diller, fr., F (7 goals, 2 assists); Chelsea Eades, so., M (4 goals, 5 assists); Ashley Klone, so., K (x shutouts).

n TITLE CHANCES: Good. The coaches' preseason favorite looked good after a 7-0 start, and KW should be able to fix the woes from April.

Laramie

n SEED, RECORD: South No. 3, 12-4-2.

n STATE BEST: Sixth-place, 2004.

n KEY FIGURES: Charity Thomas, sr., M (8 goals, 1 assists); Stephanie Swierczek, sr., M (6 goals, 1 assists); Hannah Westbrook, so., K (8 shutouts).

n TITLE CHANCES: Good. Only NC has allowed fewer goals this year and the Lady Plainsmen are also playing confidently on the offensive end.

Natrona County

n SEED, RECORD: North No. 1, 12-0-6.

n STATE BEST: Eight titles, two-time defending champion.

n KEY FIGURES: Megan McKay, sr., M (9 goals, 3 assists); Heather Beebout, sr., F (9 goals, 2 assists); Brett Ingram, sr., D.

n TITLE CHANCES: Very good. The Fillies' disinterest in their 52-match unbeaten streak says a lot about their focus and drive to three-peat.

Sheridan

n SEED, RECORD: North No. 2, 9-5-4.

n STATE BEST: One title, 1993.

n KEY FIGURES: Tayla Tucker, fr., F (4 goals, 2 assists); Anna Konkel, so., F (4 goals, 1 assists); Kara Springer, jr., M.

n TITLE CHANCES: Good. The Broncs have the confidence to get a win over NC; the challenge will be earning that opportunity.
