Zavecz has loads of national-level experience
LARAMIE - University of Wyoming head women's basketball coach Joe Legerski completed his 2004-05 recruiting class with the signing of Melbourne, Australia, native Hanna Zavecz on Tuesday.
The 6-foot forward has extensive experience at the national level, representing the Victoria Province at the Australian championships on the under-16, 18 and 20 teams.
In 2001, she was the U-16 team captain. She helped lead the U-20 team to a gold medal in 2003.
Zavecz also was a three-time Junior All-Australian Camp selection while attending the Australian Institute of Sport Academy. She currently plays at the club level for Bulleen in the Victorian Basketball League.
"Hanna brings a great deal of playing experience to our program," Legerski said in a release prepared by the UW Sports Information Department. "Participating at the Australian Institute of Sport has prepared her to be highly successful at the (NCAA) Division I level.
"We're excited to have Hanna join the Cowgirl program."
Zavecz chose UW over several schools, including Idaho State, Georgia Tech and Memphis.
She is the fifth student-athlete to sign a letter of intent this season.
Legerski signed three players during the early signing period in November: Amy Bolerjack, a 5-10 guard from Columbia, Mo.; Jodi Bolerjack, a 5-9 guard from Columbia, Mo.; and Dominique Sisk, a 5-10 forward from Colorado Springs, Colo. The Cowgirls also signed Erin Hicks, a 5-10 guard from Mountain Home, Idaho.
