RENO, Nev. - Wyoming junior Carter Downing went 6-1 at 149 pounds and finished third at the Brute Reno Tournament of Champions on Wednesday.

Downing, who finished fourth at the same tournament last year, tallied three pins and two technical falls. The Evanston graduated won his first four matches before losing in the fifth round. He then won his next two matches to take third place and improve to 19-6 on the season.

"Carter did well on Wednesday," Cowboys coach Steven Suder said in a school release. "He is definitely in the running and in the mix with some pretty good guys around the country."

Freshman Nick Ramirez finished the tournament 4-2 with a pin and Cory VomBauer went 2-2.

Twenty-nine teams, including four Top 25 Division I schools, competed in the tournament, which is one of the biggest in the country. The Cowboys finished 15th as a team.
