BYU 9 14 0 14 -- 37
Wyoming 0 0 8 7 -- 15
Virtual Bowl 2009 still remains out of Wyoming's grasp.
BYU quarterback Max Hall threw for 283 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another, and the Virtual Cougars defense kept the Cowboys off the scoreboard until the second half in a 37-15 victory on a simulation of EA Sports College Football '10 for Playstation 3.
The Cougars pinned the Pokes deep to start their second possession of the game, and Austyn Carta-Samuels couldn't escape a Jan Jorgensen sack -- one of five BYU sacks on the day -- suffering a safety that set UW off on the wrong foot and it never recovered.
BYU senior running back Harvey Unga found the end zone on one-yard runs on back-to-back possessions in the first and second quarters, Hall ran in from one yard out just before halftime, and the rout was on.
Brandon Stewart scored the first of his two touchdowns in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 23-8, but that's as close as the Virtual Pokes -- who fell to 5-4 with the loss -- would get as Hall found O'Neill Chambers from six yards out and Brett Thompson for a 75-yard gasher in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice.
Stewart ran for 65 yards and two touchdowns but needed 20 carries to get there. Gabe Knapton made his first interception, but the Cowboys gave up more than 400 yards of total offense , including 121 yards for Unga to go along with his pair of touchdowns.
And the Pokes will have to wait at least one more week to become virtually bowl eligible.
