Jan Brandenburg, wife of former Wyoming basketball coach Jim Brandenburg, died Monday.
Brandenburg passed after a courageous battle with colon cancer in Austin, Texas. She was 71.
A native of Galveston, Texas, Jan and Jim recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 1.
Jim Brandenburg compiled a 176-97 record while directing the Cowboy basketball program from 1979 through 1987. His career included trips to the 1985-86 NIT final and a Sweet 16 appearance one year later. Jan also had a major influence on the fabric of the basketball programs coached by her husband.
In addition to her husband, Jan is survived by three children, four grandchildren and a brother.
A memorial service to celebrate Jan's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Lake Travis United Methodist Church in Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Austin's Christopher House at www.hospiceaustin.org.
