The University of Wyoming women’s basketball team couldn’t complete its comeback against IUPUI on Sunday morning and fell 65-59 in the final day of the UCF Thanksgiving Classic in Orlando, Fla.

With just 6 minutes, 43 seconds let in the first half, the Jaguars held their largest lead of 18 points. In the second half the Cowgirls recovered to close the gap and, eventually, tie it at 53 with just under 6 minutes remaining in the game.

IUPUI (4-2) closed the game, however, on a 12-6 run that included six free throws to preserve the victory.

The Cowgirls (4-2) fell behind early with four turnovers on their first four possessions that allowed the Jaguars to jump out to a 10-0 lead. They finished with 14 turnovers.

Wyoming struggled with foul trouble throughout, accruing 25 total. Junior Clara Tapia fouled out while seniors Natalie Baker and Liv Roberts, and sophomores Taylor Rusk and Selale Kepenc all finished with four fouls.

Baker led the Cowgirls with 15 points.

The Cowgirls next play Montana State in Bozeman, Mont. on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
