SHERIDAN - The Wyoming girls battled back from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime on Friday, but ended up losing 79-70 in overtime to Montana in the all-star basketball series.
"The girls made a great comeback," Wyoming coach Frank McCarthy said. "I'm proud of the way they competed and didn't give up."
Lovell's Kristen Scheffler, who has signed on to play at Wyoming, made 1 of 2 free throws to give the Equality State team a 67-65 lead with 17 seconds remaining. But Montana got a basket with 2 seconds to play to push the game into extra time. Montana took control in OT, outscoring Wyoming 12-3.
Scheffler scored nine of her 11 points in the fourth quarter, with Lander's Dani White adding seven and Cheyenne Central's Chelsey Lybeck five.
"Dani hit a big three for us late in the game," McCarthy said. "And I thought Chelsey did a great job of getting to the hole and creating some things."
White finished with a team-high 17 and Sheridan's Laura Quist added 14.
Montana's Torrie Cahill led all scorers with 19 points.
Montana now leads the all-time series 14-9. The two teams will play again tonight in Billings. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
"Hopefully we can take some momentum from (Friday's) game into (Saturday)," McCarthy said.
