CHEYENNE - Already, the defending champions from Gillette are setting the pace for the rest of Wyoming's boys tennis players to match.
Gillette's boys reached the semifinal round in all five brackets of the Wyoming State High School Tennis Championships in Cheyenne on Thursday, the first day of the three-day tournament.
Gillette was the only school to accomplish that feat on the tournament's first day. Conversely, the Camels had a small lead - 0.5 points on Cheyenne East, one point on Cheyenne Central and 1.5 points on Jackson - heading into today's competition.
On the girls' side, Sheridan, Jackson and Kelly Walsh remained bunched at the top after each team moved into the semifinals of four of the five brackets.
Sheridan and Jackson were tied atop the leaderboard with 12 points apiece; Kelly Walsh was 1.5 points back and Cheyenne Central remained two points behind.
