CHEYENNE - Every time the Jackson girls needed a victory on Saturday, they found a way to win.

And now, the Broncs are state champions for the first time since 1999.

Jackson held off Sheridan by beating them in both the No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles championship matches at the Wyoming State High School Tennis Championships on Saturday at Cheyenne Central High School, winning the girls' title by nine points.

Gillette, meanwhile, swept all three boys doubles championships and won the state title for the second year in a row.

The Jackson girls won the key matches on Saturday to wrap up their championship. Paired against Sheridan teams in the finals of both No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles, Jackson won both - including a three-set thriller between Jackson's Jenna Stafford and JoLynn Leisinger and Sheridan's Haley King and Megan Jenkins at No. 2 doubles.

Jackson's Madison Pachoe also won the No. 2 singles championship and Mady Gerard added a consolation championship in the No. 1 singles bracket as the Broncs finished with 50 points. Sheridan was second at 41 and defending champion Kelly Walsh finished third with 30.

KW did have one bracket champion, as Madison Graham and Bridget Sharon defeated Natrona County's Natalie Jennings and Corey Ellbogen in the title match of the No. 1 doubles bracket. NC finished fifth with 28 points.

Emily Holst of Sheridan won the No. 1 singles title for the second consecutive year, topping Cheyenne Central's Katie Stewart in the championship match.

The Gillette boys won their second consecutive state title on the strength of their doubles teams. The Camels swept all three doubles brackets and, combined, the three pairs lost only one set throughout the tournament.

Cheyenne East tried to keep it close, as Aaron Lapkin won the No. 1 singles title for the second consecutive year and Bryce Melcher added a first-place finish at No. 2 singles. The Thunderbirds finished second, 12 points behind the Camels.

Kelly Walsh, which finished fifth, had a solid Saturday, as all three of the Trojans' doubles teams won the consolation championships of their respective brackets.

The Natrona boys finished 13th.
