SPEARFISH, S.D. - Round Two was just as tough as Round One for the Wyoming girls in their all-star basketball series with South Dakota.

Only this time around, Wyoming took the decision.

The Equality State girls won the second of their two-game series against South Dakota on Saturday, breaking out to an early lead and then holding on for a 93-88 victory.

"We shot a lot better from the perimeter and we were more aggressive on defense," Wyoming coach Mitch Holst said. "We challenged them defensively and we did a good job of fighting through picks."

Wyoming led early in the game, but South Dakota rallied to take a one-point lead midway through the third quarter. However, Wyoming took the lead right back, and a big 3-pointer from Lander's Dani White late in the fourth quarter helped seal the win.

South Dakota won Friday's game 84-79. Wyoming leads the all-time series 20-11.

"It was good to get the split after we kind of gave one away (Friday)," Holst said. "We didn't make good decisions late in the game (Friday) night, but we made some adjustments and did what we had to do to get the win."

Sheridan's Erika Stender led Wyoming with 24 points and Cheyenne Central's Chelsey Lybeck added 20.

Cami Koehn of Colman-Egan led South Dakota for the second straight game with 23 points.

n WYOMING 127, SOUTH DAKOTA 95: It's no coincidence that Wyoming's all-stars pulled out a few plays from the Gillette Camels' playbook.

With the coach and three players from Gillette, the Wyoming all-stars ran the Camels' old tricks to perfection on Friday in the first game of the doubleheader series.

The Equality State team hit 20 3-pointers on their way to a 127-95 victory over South Dakota's all-star counterparts at the Castle of Chaos in Gillette on Friday.

Results from Saturday's game were not available by the Star-Tribune's press deadline.

"That's the way we play at Gillette," said Wyoming all-stars coach Bubba Hladky, who his also an assistant on Gillette's team. "If you're open, be it two or three feet or 22 feet away, put it up."

With Wyoming's hot touch, the strategy worked - and in record fashion.

The 32-point margin of victory is the largest in series history, and the 127 points Wyoming scored broke the old record of 122 set by Wyoming in 1994.

Six of Wyoming's eight players finished in double figures, and all six had at least two 3-pointers.

Evanston's Austin Kofoed led all scorers with 28 points, including five 3-pointers. Sundance's Cody Emrick added 22 points with five 3-pointers, while Tongue River's Rob Johnson added 22, all from the field, including a pair of treys.

"All five guys (on the floor) can shoot, and that's hard to defend," Hladky said.

Wyoming led 15-3 early and 29-13 after one quarter. Wyoming's lead was as large as 22 points in the first half.
