Four different schools are in line to take home the Casper Star-Tribune's All-Sports Awards in the combined category, including one for the first time.

Gillette, Jackson, Lusk and Southeast lead the combined categories in their respective classifications of the All-Sports Awards. While Gillette, Lusk and Southeast have all won combined banners before, Jackson is trying to win its first combined award.

The Star-Tribune has honored high school sports programs for their year-round success since the 1999-2000 academic year. Schools earn points with finishes at state tournaments, and ties are broken by the total number of state championships or the best state tournament finishes.

The Star-Tribune awards banners to the winning schools in boys, girls and boys-girls combined categories at the end of the academic year.

Class 4A

With eight state championships earned so far this year, the Gillette Camels lead the Class 4A combined category by a wide margin. The Gillette boys set a new Class 4A All-Sports Award record this winter with 70 points, winning championships in all four sports the school sponsors for boys during the winter - basketball, wrestling, swimming and indoor track.

Gillette has 111 points in the boys' category; second-place Cheyenne Central has 73.

Combined, Gillette's teams scored 97 points this winter, also a new All-Sports Award winter record. In the girls' category, Cheyenne Central has a narrow 82-71 lead on Gillette. Central's girls won the basketball and indoor track championships this winter.

Class 3A

With a record-tying performance from its girls, Jackson looks on track to win its first combined banner. The Broncs' girls scored 34 points this winter, tying the record they set last year, by winning state championships in Nordic skiing, alpine skiing and basketball. Second-place Powell trails Jackson by 32 points in the girls' category.

Combined, Jackson has 147 points, 30 more than second-place Lander. Cody is a distant third with 85 points.

The boys' category has become a two-team race, as Lander has a four-point edge on Jackson (75-71). Lander's boys won state championships in swimming and basketball this winter, while Jackson's boys won the Nordic and alpine skiing titles.

Class 2A

Lusk is on track to win its first combined All-Sports Award since 2003, but Big Horn has the best chance to catch the Tigers and win its first combined award.

Lusk has 64 points, thanks in part to the boys basketball crown it won in March. Big Horn, which won the girls basketball championship, is right on Lusk's heels with 57 points. Mountain View, Thermopolis, Wyoming Indian, Tongue River, Wright and Sundance all have at least 43 points and are also within striking distance of Lusk.

The Lusk boys have an insurmountable lead in their category with 56 points; Riverside is in second place with 27. Big Horn's girls are on track to win their second All-Sports Award, too, with 40 points. Mountain View is in second place with 30.

Class 1A

Southeast, which hasn't won a combined All-Sports Award since 2001, leads the 1A division thanks in part to strong finishes in the basketball season - the girls won the state championship, while the boys finished as runners-up. The Cyclones have 63 points, while second-place Cokeville, which won the 2A wrestling title, has 56.

The Cyclones have a slim lead on Saratoga and Cokeville in the boys' category. Southeast has 37 points, while Saratoga has 34 and Cokeville 31.

Hulett, which is shooting for its first All-Sports Award of any kind, has a small lead on a host of schools in the girls' category. The Red Devils have 31 points, while Southeast (26), Cokeville (25), Arvada-Clearmont, Kaycee and Burlington (23 each) all remain within striking distance.

NOTE: Points are awarded based on finishes at state-culminating events, and banners are awarded to the winning schools in the three categories at the end of the school year. Ties are broken by the number of state championships (in parenthesis). Schools not listed have not scored.
