EVANSTON - Kelly Walsh could not have had a better start to the season.
The trouble for the Trojans on Friday night was that the good start lasted only 12 minutes.
KW scored 14 first-quarter points against Evanston on Friday but couldn't hold the lead, losing 24-14 at Red Devil Stadium.
After KW staked its 14-0 first-quarter lead, Evanston exploded for three second-quarter touchdowns, all off the legs of Corey Anthos.
Anthos scored on a pair of 1-yard runs and also scored on a 20-yard run to give the Red Devils a 21-14 lead at halftime.
A fourth-quarter field goal from Evanston provided the final margin.
Joe Munsell scored on a 23-yard fumble recovery with 6:43 remaining in the first quarter to give the Trojans a 6-0 lead. Lucas Nolan added a 25-yard scoring run just more than 3 minutes later, and the 2-point conversion made it 14-0.
Then Anthos took over, scoring all three of his touchdowns in a six-minute span in the second quarter.
Full statistics were not available by the Star-Tribune's press deadlines.
KW (1-1) is at home for the first time this season next Friday, when the Trojans will host Cheyenne East. Evanston (1-0) plays at Green River in a South Conference game next Friday.
