Class 1A/11-man Championship

Lingle vs. Southeast, 11:30 a.m., Friday

It took 12 years, but the Lingle football team finally got in the left-hand column come playoff time.

And you can bet the Doggers aren't satisfied with just winning a playoff game, either. That was evidenced by the way Lingle went into Cokeville on Saturday and overcame a 14-0 second-quarter deficit to advance to the Class 1A/11-man state championship.

It's the Doggers' first appearance in a title game since 1990.

Lingle drilled Rocky Mountain 49-13 in the quarterfinals -- the school's first playoff win since 1996 -- and then upset Cokeville 25-14 in the semifinals.

But the most interesting angle in this game is that it's a rematch of a game played just three weeks ago in the regular-season finale in Yoder.

Southeast controlled that game for a 27-11 win to clinch the East Conference title and has been rolling ever since. A 42-0 win over Riverside in the quarterfinals was followed by a 42-12 win over Wind River in the semifinals. And keep in mind this senior class has not lost the final game of any football season in their prep careers.

Class 1A/6-man Championship

Kaycee vs. Guernsey, 1 p.m., Saturday

What a first year of football for the Kaycee Buckaroos.

All the Bucs did in their first year of existence was advance to the Class 1A/6-man title game in Laramie, but the order is pretty tall with the matchup against Guernsey.

The Vikings have not only won two 11-man state titles in the past six years, but they also played for another in 2007. And Guernsey showed no signs of struggling to adapt to the six-man game this year -- the Vikings outscored the other six-man programs 360-69 during the regular season. Guernsey thumped Farson 73-6 in the quarterfinals before needing a fourth-quarter rally to get past Hanna 46-34 in the semifinals.

But the cardiac kids of Kaycee are certainly used to close finishes. The Bucs squeaked by Ten Sleep 48-43 in the quarterfinals and scored the go-ahead touchdown with 14 seconds left in their 58-56 semifinal win over Midwest. We'll see how much the Bucs remember (and have learned) from the 67-0 blanking Guernsey handed them in the final week of the regular season.

Guernsey Vikings

Coach: Casey Moats (first season).

Record: 8-0.

Last title: 2006 (1A; 14-12 over Cokeville).

Number of titles: 2.

Kaycee Buckaroos

Coach: Dustin Sipe (first season).

Record: 6-3.

Last title: First year of football program.

Number of titles: 0.
