3A/4A State Basketball, Friday

The success of the Casper College basketball programs have brought with them some possible problems. Both men’s and women’s teams are in contention to host the Region IX tournament, which could throw a wrench into plans for Swede Erickson Thunderbird Gym to host state high school basketball tournament games like it has for years.

If the Thunderbirds defeat Central Wyoming College on Wednesday and then beat Northwest on Saturday, they would clinch the North sub-region and host. That would mean the Class 4A and 3A state tournament games would be played at Kelly Walsh High School instead of Casper College from March 8-10. The Casper Events Center would host its standard games unfettered.

The third-place games originally scheduled to be played at Casper College during the Class 2A and 1A state tournament have already been moved to Natrona County’s new Jerry Dalton Gym because the T-Birds will likely host a play-in game on March 3.

State wrestling, hosted by the Events Center exclusively from Feb. 23-24, has no scheduling conflicts surrounding it.
