Natrona County

The new gymnasium at Natrona County High School opened for its first competition on Monday with the first basketball practices of the season, the school's activities director Larry Meeboer confirmed in an email.

Meeboer had originally hoped for the gym to be open in early October, in time to house a few volleyball matches before Natrona County hosted the Class 4A West Regionals from Oct. 27-28, but unforeseen maintenance continued to postpone the gym's opening.

The new gymnasium is modeled more after the former gym, known as the "orange dungeon", than the open format of its most recent predecessor.

Natrona County opens both its boys and girls basketball seasons with the Casper Invitational, running from Dec. 7-9.
