FAMILIAR FACES 1 Fifteen of the 16 teams here are repeat performers from last season, with the Thunder Basin girls in place of Laramie being the only change. The only first-round rematches from last year are the Evanston-Cheyenne East girls and the Gillette-Natrona County boys.
FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME
2 The Thunder Basin girls are in their first year as a program. The only other teams in the field without a title are also on the girls side: Kelly Walsh and Evanston. With first-round wins, Evanston and Thunder Basin would play for a spot in the championship game.
3 East Conference boys teams in the field are a combined 13-1 against their West Conference counterparts, while the girls are 9-3. The Evanston boys have the only West win, with the Natrona County, Evanston and Rock Springs also earning victories against the East this season.
CHALK TALK 4 Last year marked the first time in 10 years that the higher seeds won all of their quarterfinal games on the boys side. On the girls side, three of the four higher seeds won, with East No. 4 Laramie knocking off West No. 1 Rock Springs.
5 The same four teams — Natrona County, Kelly Walsh, Rock Springs and Evanston — from the West Conference will be in Casper this weekend. From the East, Gillette, Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central sent both boys and girls teams. They’ll be joined by the Sheridan boys and the Thunder Basin girls.
