Gillette senior Kalina Smith on Monday was named the Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year for Wyoming.

The 5-foot-7 Smith helped lead the Camels (24-3) to the Class 4A state championship game where they dropped a 53-50 thriller to Cheyenne East.

Smith averaged 11.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game for Gillette, and led the team with 2.7 assists and 2.3 blocks per game.

Smith, who also was named the Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year, is the first Camel to win the award since Jordan Kelley won three in a row from 2009-11.
