Wyoming team ropers Wheaton Williams of Big Horn and Jerren Johnson of Casper won the first go-round of the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette.

Williams and Johnson had a 5.97-second run Sunday and that time held up through the end of the first go Wednesday morning. Brothers Kellan and Carson Johnson of Casper finished second in the go with a time of 6.34 seconds.

Also finishing in the Top 10 of the first go were: Yoder's Jacey Thompson, who was second in goat tying; Sheridan's Kenna Balkenbush, who was seventh in breakaway roping; Gillette's Shay Hough, who was seventh in pole bending; and McKinnon's Chance Anderson, who was 10th in steer wrestling.

Riverton's Makayla Seely was 11th in barrel racing and Casper's Bubba Lipps was 11th in boys cutting.

The NHSFR continues through Saturday at the Cam-Plex.
