The annual National Wrestling Coaches Association awards were released on Tuesday and two Star Valley coaches were chosen as the honorees for the state of Wyoming.

Long-time head coach of the Braves, Eddie Clark, was named the NWCA Head Coach of the Year for the State of Wyoming. While Clark was honored, assistant coach Winston Patterson was named the NWCA Assistant Coach of the Year for the State of Wyoming.

Star Valley, one of the premier wrestling programs in the state, cruised to its 20th state championship this season in Class 3A.

Sophomore Tristan Hicks (106), senior Bridger Vandeburg (160) and junior Josh Dawson (220) all won state championships this season while senior McCabe Smith (285) and Spencer Angell (113). Dawson’s state title even capped an undefeated season.

Five other Braves finished with third-place finishes to finish at 266.5 points in the state meet, well ahead of second-place Powell’s 174.

Star Valley begins its defense of back-to-back state championships this winter in Clark’s 18th season.
