Two Wyoming team roping teams got off to solid starts in the first two performances at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette.

Wheaton Williams of Big Horn and Jerren Johnson of Casper grabbed the early lead with a 5.97-second run on Sunday. Sitting in second place after their 6.34-second run Monday morning were defending reserve champs Kellan and Carson Johnson of Casper.

Wyoming competitors grabbed two other second performance wins Monday with McKinnon steer wrestler Chance Anderson posting a time of 6.08 seconds and Gillette's Shay Hough taking the pole bending in 20.151.

Also Sunday, Thermopolis saddle bronc rider Koy Myers had a 62-point ride, Big Piney's Rylee Whitman scored 141 points in girls cutting, and bareback bronc rider Cole Reiner had a 60.

On Monday, Saratoga's Kasen Yorkhad a score of 286.5 in reined cow horse, bareback bronc rider Dylan Sandvick from Kaycee had a 57, Evanston breakaway roper Montana Martin had a 3.99-second run and Casper's West Bray scored 127 points in boys cutting.

The first go-round of the NHSFR concludes Wednesday morning with the second go running Wednesday night through Saturday morning. The final go-round, which consists of the top 20 performers in each event, is Saturday night at the Cam-Plex.
