The Casper College men’s rodeo team moved to the top of the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings with an impressive performance at the Eastern Wyoming College Rodeo over the weekend.

The Thunderbirds’ JW Meiers won the saddle bronc riding with a two-head total of 145 points and the T-Birds added multiple points in team roping to total 510 points. Sheridan College was second with 425 points and Eastern Wyoming College was third with 415.

With three rodeos remaining in the spring season, Casper College leads the regional standings with 2,540 points, followed closely by Sheridan College (2,535) Laramie County Community College (2,510) and Gillette College (2,490).

On the women’s side, Eastern Wyoming College’s Jacey Thompson won the goat tying and teammate Karissa Rayhill finished third in the event to help the Lancers win their home rodeo with 340 points. Gillette College finished second with 240 points and maintained its sizeable lead in the regional standings. The Pronghorns have 2,800 points through seven rodeos while runner-up Eastern Wyoming has 1,480.3. The University of Wyoming, which didn’t score a team point over the weekend, fell to third overall with 1,478.3 points.

The CRMR will take Easter weekend off before beginning its home stretch with the Colorado State Rodeo on April 5-7.
