The 2017-18 Central Rocky Mountain Region rodeo season enters its third weekend of competition with some familiar names at the top.

Defending champs Sheridan College (men) and Gillette College (women) both lead the way as the season continues at Lamar (Colorado) Community College this weekend.

The Generals won their home rodeo last weekend behind another strong showing from their bareback bronc riders. Hunter Carlson leads the standings with 310 points, with Chance Ames second (225), Cole Reiner fourth (135) and Kyle Bloomquist sixth (105).

Sheridan College enters the weekend with 945 points, followed by Laramie County Community College with 870 and Gillette College with 850.

LCCC cowboys are atop two events as Austin Hurlburt leads the tie-down roping and J.D. Draper leads the steer wrestling.

Casper College freshman team ropers Wheaton Williams and Jerren Johnson won the Sheridan College rodeo and lead the overall standings.

The Gillette College women's team, meanwhile, has totaled 770 points through two rodeos, which puts them nearly 400 points clear of the second-place University of Wyoming Cowgirls.

Gillette College has four of the top eight barrel racers, including event leader Riley Addington. The Pronghorns are also 1-2 in the breakaway roping with Quincy Segelke holding a slight lead over teammate Rickie Engesser.

UW's Casey Reimler is setting the pace in the goat tying.
