Former Wyoming rodeo coach and longtime stock contractor Pete Burns died Saturday at his home in Laramie.
Burns, 85, coached the Cowboys and Cowgirls rodeo programs from 1983-96. During his tenure the Cowgirls won three national championships and eight Central Rocky Mountain Region titles, while the Cowboys won seven CRMR titles.
A well-respected stock contractor, Burns also started the Burns Rodeo Company, which has sent stock to the National Finals Rodeo every year since 1983.
Burns Rodeo Company, which was noted for its bull breeding program, produced Mr. T, the 1986 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Bull of the Year. The black-and-white bull also was twice named the top bull at the NFR.
A memorial celebration of Burns' life will be held Feb. 8 at the Albany County Fairgrounds in Laramie.
