Maldonado is a North Arapaho man with a Bachelor's in history and secondary education from Brigham Young University. He holds a Master's degree in elementary education and a doctorate in justice studies from Arizona State University. Maldonado is currently employed as the Director for the North Arapaho Tribal education program. He is married to Sandra Delehanty, and has seven children ranging in ages 32 to 8, and one grandchild.
