Neil Short, 60, runs up a sand dune behind the Casper Events Center Friday afternoon while training for the Atacama Crossing in Chile. Short will compete in the 7-day, 155-mile footrace across the driest desert on Earth beginning Sunday because, well, it's there and because he can. "Sometimes, I read things that treat aging as though it is an inevitable and rapid decline. In fact, we do see that with a lot of people. They stop activity and find excuses," Short said.
