Grant funds theatre discussions
Casper Theater Company president Donna Fisher announced Casper Theater Company has received a grant from the Wyoming Humanities Council to conduct discussions during its mini-series, “What Happened to Smith.” The audience is invited to talk about the origins of comedy, led by Audrey Cotherman, with the discussion of the creation of a play and characters by Donna Fisher. The discussions are free and open to the series ticket holders and the public. Coffee and dessert will be available during the discussions so please call Audrey at 333-1517 to attend if you do not have a series ticket. Dates are March 23 and 24.
Rodney Carrington returns in May
Rodney Carrington will return to the Casper Events Center at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 16. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday. Tickets will be $39 for 100-level seating in the stands and $49 for the floor. VIP tickets are $184 each and include premium floor tickets in the first two rows and a post-show meet and greet. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday and can be purchased at www.SinclairTix.com, the SinclairTix Box Office at the Casper Events Center, by phone at 800-442-2256 or at any statewide SinclairTix outlet.
Carrington is a multitalented comedian, actor, and writer who has recorded eight major record label comedy albums selling over 3 million copies.
Art 321 asks for feedback
Art 321 invites members and the public to tell what is most about having Art 321 — the Casper Artists Guild present in the community. Please come by to give your thoughts. Old Hollywood comes to Art 321
Hollywood glamour is coming to Art 321 on Saturday, April 27, for “Old Hollywood Night”. Tickets are $45 per person or $80 per couple. Dress in your finest cocktail attire and enjoy an evening filled with music, food, cocktails, live auction items and fabulous raffle prizes.
Dress a mannequin for Hollywood night
Art 321 is calling all artists who have a unique opportunity to dress one of the mannequins for a special pop-up show in April. In celebration of all things fashion and in conjunction with the “Old Hollywood Night at Art 321” gala, artists are invited to dress their chosen mannequin in glamorous cocktail attire. You can thrift shop and enhance the chosen outfits or you can start from scratch and design something spectacular. There are limited mannequins, so call to reserve one today. Artists may work in groups or independently. The theme of the show is Red Carpet Mannequin Makeover. The public is invited to vote on their favorite outfit through the month of April and the winner will be announced at the gala on April 27. The deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, March 29.
View stamp collections
Members of the Central Wyoming Philatelic Association are sharing some of their wonderful collections at the Central Wyoming Senior Services, 1831 E. 4th St., through the third week of March. The exhibit includes historical first day covers and souvenir sheets from foreign countries, as well as the basics of stamp collecting and tools of the trade.
Portraits at Art 321
If portraits are your thing, or if you would like to improve your portrait drawing or painting skills, please take part in Art 321’s Wednesday morning Portrait Group. Every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. there is a different model and no preregistration is necessary. The cost is only $10 per session and there are plenty of experienced portrait artists there who would be happy to provide suggestions or advice if you request it.
Play pinochle at Senior Center
Pinochle players are wanted. Come on down and join the Pinochle Club on Thursdays and Fridays from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at Central Wyoming Senior Services, 1831 East 4th Street.
Free senior fun
Free to people 60 or older, if you like to dance, come join Joyce’s Stompers for easy clogging (a form of tap dancing) specially designed for seniors on Monday mornings only at 10:50 a.m. on the dance floor in the dining room at 1831 East 4th Street. First call Joyce at 237-4908, so you will not be sent somewhere else. It is moderate, easy clogging giving great exercise for helping flexibility, coordination, increasing endurance and strength and helps exercise the brain by learning different dance routines. If you cannot stand, you can exercise your legs tapping the steps to the music sitting on a chair. You are most welcome. Come make new friends.
New plan for Saturday watercolor
The Art 321 Saturday morning watercolor group is charting a whole new course for 2019 and all water media artists are invited to participate in fun and creative watercolor projects. Each week, group leader Ellen Black will introduce an activity designed to stretch your imagination and engage you creatively within a friendly, welcoming and supportive environment. Another new feature for 2019 will be the opportunity to sign up for a 30-minute private session during the regular 10 a.m. to noon time frame. The cost for each Saturday watercolor session is only $5 to pay for the use of the gallery and support Art 321. Sessions are open to all without the need to register in advance. Workshop committee open
Nancy Geldien is stepping down as chairman of the Art 321 Workshop Committee after serving for two years. The 2019 schedule is almost set, making this a great time for another Casper Artists Guild member to volunteer to become the next chair of the committee. Wednesday weaving group
Art 321 has a Weaving Group which will meet each Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon. There are small table looms available for in-house use or for sale for $20, tax included. If you have ever wanted to learn how to weave or to sharpen existing skills, please bring in some yarn and join the group. There is no need to sign up ahead of time, experienced weavers will be there to help you get started and the cost is $5 per attendee.
Informal artists’ mingle
Art 321 is now hosting an informal Artists Mingle session each Thursday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. Artists are invited to meet one another, network and find new friends. Please bring something you are working on to show others and request valuable feedback if you desire. Plan to share ideas and learn what has — and hasn’t — worked for others. No sign-up is necessary. Just come by and become part of a dynamic community of local artists.
