Low vision support meets

The Casper Area Low Vision Support Group will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Casper Senior Center. The guest speaker will be from Wyoming Relay Services to show equipment that will benefit those will low vision.

Rotary hears Seton House, Connections to Success

The Rotary Club of Casper is pleased to welcome Deanna Frey, executive sirector of Seton House, as the speaker at its noon luncheon meeting at the Ramkota Hotel. Frey will be discussing Seton House and the Connections to Success Program. Rotary Club members and their guests are invited.

Deanna Frey’s passion has always been working with and on behalf of children and families. She moved to Wyoming 45 years ago to work in Green River and Casper at child development centers and as a special education director and executive director. In 2003 she moved to Cheyenne to serve as director of the Wyoming Children’s Action Alliance. She returned to Casper in 2015 to serve as executive director of Seton House.

DAR meets

Fort Caspar Chapter, NSDAR will hold its next meeting at Shepherd of the Hills Church Community Room. Rockin Burgers and Dogs food truck will provide a no-host style lunch beginning at noon, and Judy Murray from the Wyoming Foundation for Cancer Cares Angels Program (Rocky Mountain Oncology) will give a presentation beginning at 12:30 p.m. DAR members, their guests and all prospective members are warmly welcome. Reception for portrait exhibit Monday

“Elemental Portraits,” the first show for the 2019-2020 school year at the Goodstein Visual Arts Center, is now on display. A reception and artist talks will take place Monday. The exhibition, reception and talks are free and open to the public. The reception and talks will take place in Room 102, beginning at noon.

The show presents the works of two artists, Gabrielle Reeves and Maria R Wimmer. “Elemental Portraits” is the first joint exhibit for the two artists who live 6,000 miles from each other. Reeves is based in Turkey, while Wimmer is based in Wyoming. The exhibit will explore the common interest both artists share in portraiture.

“Elemental Portraits” has grown out of a mutual love for drawing, portraiture and collaboration. The work on display explores personal identity, its fluidity and how environment affects personality.

“Elemental Portraits” will be on display through Thursday, Oct. 3. The Goodstein Visual Arts Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery and Room 102 are located in the Goodstein Visual Arts Center on the Casper College campus.

CASA golf tourney

The CASA Classic Golf Tournament is 1 p.m. at the Paradise Valley Country Club. Additional teams are needed for the scramble format. Registration for a four-person team is $400. Dinner and awards follow golf. All proceeds benefit foster children in the CASA program. Sponsorships and hole sponsors are still being accepted. Learn about Libby

The Natrona County Library will offer a Libby class from 3 to 4 p.m. Library staff will demonstrate how to download eBooks and eAudiobooks using the Libby mobile app, an eContent service provided by the Natrona County Library. Call 577-7323 for more information.

Tween Monday: Pom Pom Pets

The Natrona County Library will host a craft program for students in grades 4-6 at 4 p.m. Students will make a new pet for themselves, luckily they will be made of pom poms and won’t require feeding or walking. All supplies provided at no cost. Call 577-7323 for more information.

Doll club meets

Casper Doll Club will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 9, at the Senior Center, 1831 E. 4th St. There is no meeting if inclement weather occurs.

This is an organization for people with an interest in doll collecting or doll related toys, with participation in and service to the club and its charity.

Photographers meet

The September meeting for the Casper Photography Association is at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2625 Casper Mountain Road, at 7:15 p.m. Nancy Patrick is bringing refreshments. There is no program so please feel free to bring photos to share. Your selections for the Christmas show are due.

Sally Ann Shurmur arrived at the Star-Tribune to cover sports two weeks after graduating from the University of Wyoming and now serves as community news editor. She was raised in Laramie and is a passionate fan of Cowboys football, food and family.
