Safeway announced Friday it has purchased the Cole Shopping Center in Cheyenne with plans to renovate the property and build a new store on the site.
The construction project is estimated to cost about $20 million and will begin in 2014. Safeway has been working with local officials and tenants of the property to finalize plans for the project.
Safeway has been in the Cole Shopping Center since 1952. This will be the third time a new Safeway store will be built on the property.
“This Safeway store is part of the fabric of Cheyenne. We are excited to be able to renovate the entire property so that it continues to meet the needs of the community for years to come,” said Kris Staaf, Safeway director of public affairs.
