Christmas tree lighting and parade to kick off holiday season

David Street Christmas Tree

A crane lifts a tree from inside the David Street Station ice skating rink to be readjusted Thursday in downtown Casper. Eric and Michelle Pribbernow donated the 6,000-pound tree to serve as the community Christmas tree this year. Workers with Rodolph Brothers had to cut limbs and the trunk off the base of the tree to allow it to be safely installed. There will be a tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Nov. 30.

The community Christmas tree lighting at David Street Station and Downtown Christmas Parade kick off the holiday season. The evening events follow a day of festivity downtown with Small Business Saturday.

The David Street Station ice rink opens for the season at noon Friday. Regular hours are 5-9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and noon to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Saturday’s parade begins at the plaza following the tree lighting and will run along Second Street, ending behind the Nicolaysen Art Museum. The community Christmas tree was donated by Eric and Michelle Pribbernow of Casper.

“You tear down one, you set up the next one,” he said. “And it’s not just a snap your fingers, it’s done. There’s a lot of physical work that goes on with these things. The current event, so to speak, is in the way of the upcoming event. We’ve got to get that one out to get the next one in.”
