UW theater stages quirky holiday comedy

The University of Wyoming’s production of “How to Survive Your Family at Christmas” by UW Department of Theatre and Dance professor William Missouri Downs offers a comedy “about love, family and what is needed to survive holiday gatherings: forgiveness.” The plot follows a Harvard student home for the holidays to find she has nothing in common with her working-class parents. Complications arise when her Massachusetts Kennedy boyfriend shows up.

Downs has written for NBC sitcoms including “My Two Dads” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” The comedy writer, stage director and author has had more than 200 productions of his plays performed in 12 countries and last year was a finalist for the International Nick Darke Playwriting Award.
