Special cars and coffee

Special Memorial Weekend “Cars and Coffee,” is 8 to 10 a.m. on Friday at the east side City Brew. Cruise- in for a brew on your way to the three big car shows on East 2nd, including all-Mopar (Fremont Motors), all-GM (Greiner Motors), and all-import (Foss Toyota). And don’t forget the all-Ford show at Greiner Ford out west on CY. In addition, Cars and Coffee will be held on Saturday as usual this week.

Cruizin’ with the Oldies starts

The Oil Capitol Auto Club (OCAC) is proud to host the 18th annual “Cruizin’ with the Oldies” car show on Sunday at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds. About 300 vehicles are expected to be entered in 11 categories.

In addition to the OCAC sponsored events, there are a number of independent activities through the weekend. On Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be four auto dealer sponsored individual events: 1) An all Ford show at Greiner Ford of Casper; 2) An all Mopar show at Fremont Motor Casper; 3) An all GM show at Casper Buick GMC Cadillac; and 4) An all import show (all makes welcome, particularly tuners) at Foss Toyota. Each of these shows is free (both participants and spectators) and will conclude with awards presentations. Details at:

Friday eclectic arts

Art 321’s Friday morning Eclectic Arts Group announces its schedule for May. May 25 will feature Chuck Smith teaching watercolor tips and tricks, so bring watercolor supplies. These sessions are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the cost is $5 and all are welcome. No advance registration is required.

Summer cocktails

In preparation for the Memorial Day weekend and as summer is on the horizon, Grant Street Grocery and Market is heading to C85 The Pumproom, 739 N. Center, from 4 to 7 p.m. to demo several cocktail mixers, bitters and more so you can discover your new favorite summer beverage. Free to attend, goods available for purchase.

Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery meets at 5:30 p.m. every Friday at Highland Park Community Church, just south of Elkhorn Valley Rehabilitation Hospital on East Second Street. A family meal starts the evening, followed by praise and worship. At 7 p.m. there’s either a lesson from Celebrate Recovery’s planned curriculum or a testimony by a person who has found recovery through Christ. Then people go to gender-specific small groups until 8:30 p.m. when dessert and fellowship conclude the evening. Child care is available at no cost. For more information contact Chris at 265-4073.

BUMP contest benefits Officer Carlson

The third annual Foss Motors 3x3 Basketball Tournament presented by Shoshone Rose Casino & Hotel will host a BUMP basketball contest with proceeds going to Officer Carlson’s family on David Street downtown.

A basketball Bump contest will be held during the opening ceremonies and street party. Bump, a twist on HORSE, is a competition to be the last player standing. The evening’s fund raiser will be a 50/50 event and anyone can enter by donating $5 to compete. There will be a kids and adults competition and the last person standing in both categories will split the donations 50/50 with the Carlson family.

The tournament begins at 7 p.m. with opening ceremonies followed by a 7:30 p.m. dance party on center court and the BUMP contest will begin. DJ Nyke will provide the music, while food and drink will be available until 9 p.m. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the event that is fast becoming the official start of summer in Wyoming.
