Doris Kersey MacCannon

ROCHESTER, Minn.—Doris Kersey MacCannon was born September 29, 1931 in Pueblo, Colorado, and passed away on May 7, 2019 in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 87.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. MacCannon, and her parents, George D. and Maria P. Kersey.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Robert P.) Joyce of Rochester, Minnesota; son, William R. MacCannon of Chicago, Illinois; brother, George E. Kersey of Boston, Massachusetts; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Geff) DeSpiegler of Woodbury, Minnesota, Elizabeth Joyce of Seattle, Washington, and Patrick Joyce of Rochester, Minnesota; and one great-grandchild, Aiden DeSpiegler.

Doris was a graduate of Pueblo Community College. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from the University of Colorado in 1953.

She was an exceptionally talented seamstress and cook, a devoted mother and wife, and an active volunteer throughout her life, most recently at the Bessemer Historical Society and Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center in Pueblo, Colorado. She was Director of Volunteers at St. Mary Corwin Medical Center from 1982 until her retirement in 1996. Doris was a lifetime member of the National Ski Patrol. She was a member of the Brian Head Ski Patrol in Southwestern Utah and the Casper Mountain Ski Patrol in Casper, Wyoming.

At Doris’ request, there will be no services. She donated her body to Mayo Clinic to further medical education and research.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center or the Bessemer Historical Society in Pueblo, Colorado, or Seasons Hospice and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

The family wishes to express its special thanks to Mayo Clinic, Seasons Hospice, and The Waters on Mayowood for their care and compassion. Although Doris will be deeply missed, her memory will live on through family and friends.
