Richard S. Dwyer

Rich was born in St. Louis, Missouri to John and Alpha (Dunker) Dwyer on October 5, 1933; the second of ten children. He passed away November 23, 2018 in Mesa, Arizona. He graduated from Mercy High School in 1951. Rich served in the U.S. Army from October 1955 until November 3, 1961. He was working for Roto-Rooter when he met Ellen Brummelhorst (Brennan) and her three young sons. They married in 1967. In 1968 they had a son together and shortly after moved to Casper, Wyoming to become part owners of Casper Oil Company. Rich adopted Ellen’s three sons in 1971, the same year they had a fifth son. Casper Oil was later incorporated into Venta, a convenience store business based in Colorado.

While in Casper, he was active at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, serving as President of the Holy Name Society and helping prepare and serve Mexican dinners to parishioners. Upon retirement, they moved to Chandler, Arizona. At St. Steven’s parish Rich was on the Bereavement and Outreach committees and served as an usher until his health made it difficult.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; sons, Dan (Laura), Jim (Brenda), Mike (Shelley), Rick (Trish), and Jeff (Melisa); grandsons, Dan (Julie), Jake, Nick, Vince, Stephen and Michael; granddaughters, Brennan Mae and Samantha; great-grandsons, Talon and Danny III; sisters, Carol Diggins, Mary Ann Carney, and Marlene Duenwald; brothers, Dave, Tom (Janet), Steve (Kathleen), and Don (Celeste); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Ken and Bill. Cremation has already taken place. A Memorial Mass will take place at 10AM, Monday, December 10, 2018 at St. Steven’s Catholic Church in Sun Lakes, AZ. Rosary will precede the Mass at 9:15 AM. Graveside service with Military Honors will take place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Mesa, AZ at 1:45 PM.

In Lieu of flowers donations to Regina Cleri of the Diocese of Phoenix or the Muhammad Ali Parkinson’s Center would be appreciated.
