Robert R. Gosman

CASPER—Robert F. Gosman passed away after a short illness on Thursday, the 29th of August, 2019. He was 91 years old, born on the Second of December 1927 in Butte, Montana. Robert was raised in Lima, Montana. His father was a railroad conductor for Union Pacific Railroad. He graduated from High School in Dillon, Montana, and served in the U.S. Army in Korea for two years. He married the love of his life, Barbara Boyer in Dillon in 1951, and graduated with a master’s degree in geology from Dartmouth College.

His first job was with the Ohio Oil Company where he was mentored by his friend, Jim Barlow, a Casper oilman. Robert came to Casper in 1959 to work for Warren Morton of MKM Oil Company as a geologist. His friend and hunting and fishing partner Earl West helped him secure that position. He left MKM in 1962 to sell mutual funds, later working as a stockbroker for Dain, Kalman and Quail, and Boetcher and Company. Robert retired from Shearson Lehman Brothers. He acquired U.S. Welding with his partner and lifelong friend Jerry Culver, and together they established Wyoming Home Oxygen and Rentals Plus.

Robert was active in politics, serving as the Wyoming State Republican Chairman, National Committeeman, and helped elect many state and federal officials over the years. He and Barbara formed a lasting friendship with Governor Stan and Bobbie Hathaway, and had many friends in Casper and around the state. Robert loved to hunt and fish, especially on his ranch at the Bar C, and was an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by his son, Jeff and wife, Pam Gosman, of Casper and his daughter, Debbie Stoetzel and husband, Dave of Whidby Island, Washington. He is survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and his brother, Richard.

He was adored by all of his family.
