PHOTOS: Casper Marathon draws runners from across the U.S. and beyond
More than 300 runners laced up before daybreak Sunday and took to Casper’s streets and trails for the 23rd Casper Marathon, one of the city’s signature annual races.
Weather for the event was typical of summer in Casper — cool and sunny early but rapidly warming as the sun rises — but finishers of the 10K portion had good things to say. Â
Crowded field
More than 300 competitors ran out of the gate at 6 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at the WYO Sports Ranch, which hosted the starting line for the 2026 Casper Marathon. The event offered different routes for a 10K, a half marathon and a full marathon.

Definitely not lazy
Joe Zabel is the first competitor to make it to the Morad Park aid station, which was around Mile 21 of the Casper Marathon. Zabel, a paraplegic, traveled from Gillette to participate in the marathon on Sunday, June 7, 2026. He joked that he should be called "lazy" for his use of the bike.Â

Father-son bonding
Geoff Sherman ran a 10K with his son William on Sunday, June 7, 2026. The pair trained for the race for about three months. Geoff credited his son with the idea. "My other family was going to do a half marathon," William said. "So I decided to do a 10K. I kind of forgot when."
'Longest run ever'

Hubert said the race was her "longest run ever," and Posten said it was her first 10K.
Long way from home
Steve Wallace of Columbus, Ohio, ran a 10K during the Casper Marathon on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Wallace was on vacation in Casper for a fishing trip when he decided he may as well do a 10K in the Casper Marathon. Wallace is training for the Columbus Marathon this fall and said the Sunday race "helps keep you motivated."
