Ridley’s Family Markets will close its store in west Casper, according to an announcement Thursday on Facebook. The store, which includes a supermarket and pharmacy, will immediately start a progressive inventory liquidation and close by April 11, the post said.
The store is located on CY Avenue between 20th and Boxelder streets. A Ridley’s remains in east Casper on Wyoming Boulevard.
Walgreens has bought the west Ridley’s pharmacy, and as of March 21 current patients at the pharmacy will be able to fill prescriptions at the nearest Walgreens pharmacy, the release said.
“As a family owned and operated company it is never easy to make decisions like this that impact members of our Ridley’s team,” Mark Ridley, president of Ridley’s Family Markets, wrote in the post. “It is very personal for us when we have to make decisions like this because of the impact we know it has on the (people’s) lives that work in these stores.
“Because of this we try everything we can to try to make every one of our stores successful but unfortunately there are times we are unable to make every store successful and have to close underperforming stores for the overall health and success of the rest of our company. We believe that the core of our business is the people who work with us. We will be trying to find positions for as many people as possible at the other Ridley’s store on Wyoming Blvd that will be remaining open.”
Ridley’s bought two Safeway locations in Casper in 2014, as well as a Safeway in Sheridan and an Albertsons in Laramie, following the merger between Safeway and Albertsons. They opened as Ridley’s stores in March 2015.
The Idaho-based company has 31 locations, according to its website, including four in Wyoming outside of Casper. Ridley’s began in 1984 in Payson, Utah.
