Casper police are investigating a stabbing that left one person with minor injuries overnight, the agency said Friday morning.

Sgt. Joey Wilhelm said the Casper Police Department has identified a suspect but not yet made any arrests in relation to the assault. The sergeant, who oversees investigations for the agency, said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Police dispatch records indicate officers were sent to Wyoming Medical Center shortly after 3 a.m. Friday for a report of an assault. Wilhelm said the stabbing did not take place at the hospital. It instead reported to police, however, when a person came in for medical treatment for a stab wound.

The victim suffered a minor injury, was treated and released, the sergeant said.

The investigation continued Friday morning. Wilhelm declined to immediately identify the suspect but said the agency will release more information as it becomes available.
