Former Douglas special education teacher Katie Marcus was arrested Monday in Cody on a Converse County warrant without specifics on the underlying charges.
Marcus, 34, was a special education teacher at Converse County School District No. 1 until July 2013. Her contract was terminated at that point but no reason for the termination was given.
Marcus, a Gillette native whose maiden name is Marso, is married to Mike Marcus, a former teacher in Douglas. According to her Facebook page, Marcus was hired as a SPED teacher at Park County School District No. 6.
The Park County Detention Center said Marcus was no longer in custody as of noon on Tuesday.
The Converse County warrant stated bail was set at $50,000.
Meanwhile, a warrant out of Converse County Circuit Court was served Monday in Park County for two counts of third-degree felony sexual abuse of a minor. All names on the police affidavit were redacted, aside from the initials of the victim and his birth year. The affidavit also said the victim was 17 years of age and a junior in high school in Douglas at the time of the incidents.
The warrant also states that the defendant is a 5-foot, 5-inch, white female with brown hair and blue eyes. The documents state that the female was born in 1981, but state law allows names of victims and accused in sexual assault cases to be redacted.
Marcus was born March 18, 1981, according to her Facebook page.
Each felony offense carries a 15-year prison sentence and up to $10,000 fine if the accused is convicted.
