A man died late Thursday of an apparent gunshot wound on Casper's east side, police said.

The man was found wounded outside an apartment on the 2900 block of Zion Lane. He was taken to Wyoming Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to a post on the Casper Police Department Facebook page.

Officers found the man while responding to a report of a man knocking on an apartment door. While en route, police learned that a loud noise, similar to a firecracker, was heard outside the apartment.

"This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the community," the post states.

The incident remains under investigation by the Casper Police Department and the Natrona County Coroner's Office.
