Fatal Fire

Two people were killed by a Monday morning fire that destroyed an RV at the Lariat Trailer Park in Mills. Thursday, the Natrona County Coroner's Office identified the victims.

The Natrona County Coroner’s Office on Thursday identified two people killed in a fire earlier this week.

Earline Maxie, 73, and Oliver “Ted” Kersey, 83, both of Mills, died as the result of a early Monday morning fire that consumed a mobile home in the Lariat Trailer Park, on West Yellowstone Boulevard.

Maxie died at the scene.

A Mills Police officer pulled Kersey from the flaming motor home around 3 a.m. He was taken to Wyoming Medical Center to be treated for injuries but later died.

Although officers and firefighters tried to find Maxie as well, they couldn’t until after the fire was extinguished a half hour later.

The cause and manner of their deaths are still under investigation.

A firefighter and a police officer were both treated for minor injuries.

On Monday morning, caution tape marked off the RV that had been largely consumed by flames. Scraps of burnt siding lay in the street, as far as three lots away from the damaged trailer.

Authorities have not identified the cause of the fire. They did say oxygen tanks inside the home exploded once the already burning fire reached them.

A Mills Fire Department spokesman did not immediately respond to a Friday morning voicemail requesting comment for this story.
