Police lights

A Rock Springs police detective shot a dog Wednesday evening while serving a search warrant.

When police arrived at the house on Evergreen Way, a resident opened the door and the dog darted out, according to a Rock Springs Police Department news release.

The pit bull bit one officer on the foot, before running at the plainclothes detective, police said.

The detective shot the dog and the animal died in the front yard.

The warrant, which was related to alleged computer crimes, was executed without further problems, police said.

Police are conducting an internal investigation into the shooting. No arrests have been made in relation to the incident.
