LARAMIE — The University of Wyoming has found how to reduce its budget by $19.3 million, bringing trustees one step closer to finalizing the fiscal year 2017 budget.
Most of reduction comes from vacant positions that have either been frozen or eliminated. As of Aug. 19, about 150 faculty and staff positions in the budget were empty. Of those, 97 positions have been eliminated and the others are remaining vacant.
While the 2017 goal has been met, the Financial Crisis Advisory Committee is still searching for $15 million in reductions for the fiscal year 2018 budget, which will be in addition to the $19.3 million.
