I had no idea this was happening. The last trip we made to Casper from Gillette I mentioned that they needed to add a rest area. I have to say that is actually the reason we go to Rapid City to shop instead of Casper; there are no rest areas. I am in need of these facilities when traveling.
We love going to Casper but even that 2-hour drive for me is too far to go without a break. Again it is another idea that will hurt Wyoming residents in many ways, including bringing others into our state.
Is this a choice that the Governor is making?? Along with charging WY residents to camp in our own state?
Here's my opinion on the closing of the rest stops. Being from Wyoming, these rest areas are very important to us and the truckers. Miles between towns, a lot of people use these. Closing the one in Chugwater is going to really hurt this small town! Some of these were just built; closing them is going to deteriorate the buildings.
I attended both George Floyd/Black Lives Matter protests in Casper and was very moved by, and proud of, the people who organized those events, particularly the young people. I was glad the Wednesday march went all the way out Second Street, to get the attention of the whole community.
Thank you to the Casper Police and Police Chief Keith McPheeters for the vocal support and the protection you gave to all the marches.
There was something really disturbing, though. That was the groups of three to five white men, often in camo, who stood on street corners both days with what looked like automatic weapons. It felt threatening. That Friday, they lingered quite a while downtown on Second Street, long after the protest march was over. If something had set them off, people would have been caught in the crossfire. Time to let our towns end open carry, Wyoming. It’s just too dangerous.
Further: As Isaiah Dobbins reportedly told the Star-Tribune, a group of black men carrying those weapons would have been questioned in a way these people apparently were not.
As Dobbins said, that demonstrates what the protests are about.
Is the State of Wyoming Department of Health all of a sudden throwing in the towel? Is it caving in to the pressure of other interests like the health departments in so many other states have been lately? According to the State of Wyoming Department of Health’s COVID-19 Dashboard of State Metrics, the number of new COVID-19 cases is “Stabilizing” as of 6/13/20. The word stabilizing is marked in the color yellow as if to show some sort of improvement. Yet on a different page on their website, it shows the number of new cases has been increasing at the same steady rate since March 24th, as reflected in the steady, upward 45-degree slope of a line on a graph labeled “Lab Confirmed Cases.”
In fact, the line on this graph has taken a noticeable turn upward in just the last few days. I think classifying the number of new cases as “stabilizing” is misleading, is doing a disservice to the citizens of Wyoming and is undermining the integrity of the Department of Health, which, until recently, along with Governor Gordon’s leadership, had done an admirable job managing the pandemic. The citizens of Wyoming deserve an explanation for this inconsistent reporting.
This is a message for my brothers and sisters in Christ. I learned from our bishop's office that it is not a mortal sin not to vote Republican even though Trump claims to be the "right to life" candidate. Advocating for right to life is not dependent on voting. There is a lot more we can do, state level and elsewhere, I was told. Most important to me is giving serious thought to candidates. Contrary to Trump declaring "I am the chosen one," he is not! God is the Savior, not Trump, nor us.
Trump is a horrendous threat to our country. He fails the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) in several areas including: pathological liar, narcissism, messiah complex and misogynist.
Trump cannot truly be pro-life when he keeps little children in cages, separated from their parents at the border. Nor when he refuses to allow into our country parents seeking asylum so they raise their family safely. Nor is it pro-life to cut food stamp benefits and school nutrition programs.
As if this is not overwhelming and frightening itself, surely no citizen can overlook the President's arrogance! It is unbelievable and puts our nation in great danger. Trump knows nothing about the military, medicine or natural science, yet will not take the advice of any of these experienced people -- even ones he has put into office to assist him! Instead, the president likes to surprise us with all his "off the wall" decisions on critical issues. And, if caught in a lie or poor decision, seeks to be excused by claiming he was "joking!"
I know Trump must feel secure believing he has won the vote of all Catholics, but he has not! Many of us have seen through his scam. We know we must pray for his healing, but in no way should we keep him in the White House.
I pray that all voters wake up before it's too late and I forgive those who denounced me.
In a June 8, 2020 Casper Star Tribune article, “Two tumultuous years” the journalist ponders on whether Wyoming should vote Democrat in the next election based on the racial overtones in the nation, somehow trying to link the racial turmoil in the country to President Trump. Does he forget all the racial issues while President Obama was in office? Were these Obama’s fault? A strong argument can be made that the state of affairs and political stress of racial divide is the result of Democrats and their policies.
It is not Wyoming that should be looking to change their vote but Minnesota, California, Illinois, New York, Washington D.C., to name a few. These states and specifically the inner cities have been controlled and governed by Democrats for at least the last 40 years. What have these Democrat-controlled governments done to help African Americans?
On the other hand, President Trump has done more for African Americans in three years than Bush and Obama did in 16 years of their administration. Under President Trump, African Americans had their lowest unemployment rate in history. Trump created opportunity zones to encourage developers to invest and build in minority neighborhoods, he passed criminal justice reform which takes steps to reform the criminal justice system and ease very punitive prison sentence, and he signed a $360 million grant to support Historically Black Colleges and Universities. His business and middle-class tax cuts created new jobs for all Americans; including African Americans, which leads to the opportunity to build better lives.
The President is now working on legislation and/or executive orders for police reform. While the article was interesting, I did not find any evidence to support why Wyomingites would be better served by having Democrats and Joe Biden governing Wyoming and our Country. And we didn’t even talk about the Green New Deal.
The head of the the Wyoming Department of Health is concerned with the mental health of residents of long-term living facilities, why are those who have served their country at the Wyoming Veterans Home being treated like prisoners? There are six wings, all of the doors are locked and the residents are being funneled to one area, which would the spread of COVID-19 much easier. During fire drills we have to walk through the building to exit, I hope the fire is not in one of the wings.
This situation is depressing the residents to a great extent, we would like someone to use some common sense. We are two miles from town and there is only one entrance to the property. So other than the staff coming and going, there isn't a lot of threat of contagion.
